Sport inspired fashion hits Bath

by Harriet Osborne

An exhibition of iconic sportswear and the latest sport inspired fashion pieces has opened in the fashion museum in Bath.

In perfect timing with the 2012 Olympics, this display showcases examples of how the latest fashion pieces have been inspired by sportswear both in fabric, cut and styling.

Stella McCartney, Pam Hogg, Vivienne Westwood are among many designers who have been inspired by sport

Cherry Beath, The Council’s Cabinet Member for Sustainable Development, said: “This is a really imaginative celebration of how sport and fashion are intertwined.”

The red, white and blue suit worn by Olympic gold medallist Amy Williams at the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010 is just one of many iconic sport ensembles on display that have made a historic footprint in fashion.

Other sport inspired pieces include the work of British designer Pam Hogg whose famous creations have been worn by the likes of Rhianna, Jessie J and Kelly Rowland, and Stella McCartney’s gold space blanket jacket designed for Adidas.

Mrs Beath said: “From the race track to the catwalk to the high street – there’s a shared thread running through all these elements which the ‘Sport and Fashion’ exhibition explores.”
